Spring 2004 > Live Image Processing and Performance : Final Project
  THE WINDOW SEAT

  concept:

This is a combined project with my thesis. I will create a physical interface for the users to trigger / change videos. It will not focus much on the effects in the video, but more on how they're triggered or changed according to user's movement unconsciously.
Therefore, in my project, the interface will be more important. The main idea is to create a space that makes users less aware of the project itself, and to direct the focus inside themselves. Videos serve as the rewards of their input and the bridge into their memories.

setup:

a table with a book* on it, a chair, a frame (window) on the wall and a webcam.
The image in the frame will be webcam live input if nobody comes to it. A pressure sensor on the chair will detect the presence of the audience. If it gets input, the image in the window will change to some prerecorded videos of New York.
The book (fake one) has photocells on its pages. When user turns the pages, it changes videos in the frame.

technical notes:

For this project I'll need to use serial communications with jitter.
